I watched the inspirational movie, Blood Diamond. There were many key elements that this movie touched that are still happening today. For instance, there was the abduction of kids, like Solomon's son, Dia, who are trained by the guerilla rebels to murder. There was also the lust and greed for diamonds that many types of leaders wanted. These small rocks were very valuable to a different variety of people with good intentions and bad intentions. An example, the rebels made the captured villagers and slaves dig in different areas until they found diamonds. Some brave slaves would try to hide the rock and runaway, but most were killed for doing so. From there, they would trade with black-market dealers for weapons to use against their enemies. In addition, the military used these stones to buy weapons and authority as well. And in between all this chaos, many innocent villagers and citizens were caught in the cross fire, like Solomon's village and many others. It reinforced my thoughts on that part of the world greatly. Some thoughts were that the lives of the people who lived there were completely different than the lives of people that live in more civilized parts of the world. I now understand that a lot of helpful people are trying their best to support and aid these miserable people. However, most people do not take their time into caring for these tpe of people. I believe that powerful people were and are very corrupt and forcefully persuasive when it comes to violence and supremacy. Also, the harmless natives were feeble, stranded, and were accidentally in the way of these people’s plans. Plus, I did not like the thought that the acquitted, indigenous people were made to either kill others, serve as slaves, or killed as a means of target-practice or an enjoyment or a means of expressing an idea. A factor that affected all these people were the diamonds, that were “soaked in the blood and tears of simple inhabitants” and worth a vast amount of money. In all, this movie was inspiring and motivational to all those who viewed it. I enjoyed the part how Solomon was reunited with his family and how Dia was able to be restored from the experiences of being a child soldier. The depressing part of the movie was how Danny Archear never made it out of the country with his friends. in the end i liked how Solomon was able to talk to the people in the council and expressing his experiences of life there in his home country. Plus, Maddy Bowren, a journalist wrote a successful article that would motivate people, who have not heard about these problems, to help. Then I received the information from this movie and more motivation and inspiration from another movie called, “War Dance,” that I obtained the idea of starting a fundraiser - which is leading up to a club - that will help towards people of these same situations and matters. Finally, I would like to say that many pure people are heavily influenced by others that hold or are wanting power, just like Solomon and Dia. These people will lead the pure people down a path of suffering and pain which they never had experienced in their lives. I would like to change that.

Michael Collins
1. The movie I watched was Michael Collins which tells the story of Michael Collins, an Irishman who leads a revolt against the British in Ireland. The movie begins with the Easter Rising in 1916 when the British ruthlessly take down the Irish. Then, Collins takes the revolution into his own hands and his men begin to assassinate British army leaders. Finally Collins creates a treaty with the British, but many Irishmen do not approve. This leads to a division of the Irish and more conflict between the Irish and the British. Finally, the conflict leads to Collin’s tragic death.
2. The movie discussed the Irish Revolution and the English Imperial system. It was a marvelous historical depiction of the Irish Revolution. It also discussed the life of Michael Collins, who was a real person. The movie did an excellent job of showing how Britain treated its colonies and how the British were more likely to choose violence over compromise. It also gave a historical account of the revolution in an interesting way, and made it easy to understand.
3. The film showed me a firsthand account of how it was to live in a British colony. It showed exactly how the British treated them and to what extent the Irish people would go for freedom. Also, it informed me about the Irish Revolution and showed me how the Irish colony was like all of the other British colonies. Before I had watched this film I did not know who Michael Collins was, but now I feel as if I know about the Irish Revolution. The movie really was exciting and it makes me want to learn more about the subject.
4. I really enjoyed Michael Collins because it was a very good historical film. Also it had a lot of action and the special effects were great! The actors did a wonderful job and their accents were very good. However, the accents made it hard to understand some things, but it was worth it because they made the film historically accurate. Also, I enjoyed seeing Alan Rickman in a role other than Severus Snape. All in all it was a very good movie and I would recommend it.
Mr. McDonald's World History: 8th World History
I watched the movie Blood Diamond. The movie is set during the Sierra Leone Civil war. A man, named Danny Archer, is on the quest to find a large diamond. The diamond was hidden by Solomon Vandy, a guy that found and hid it during imprisonment. Blood Diamond shows the hurdles Danny and Solomon had to go through to find a large diamond. This "pink diamond" ,which was called int he film, would allow Danny to leave Africa and move on in life. In his journey, he met a journalist and she helped him. In the end, Solomon reunited his family, but Danny died on a cliff ):
In class we watched a film which showed the lives of 3 children. They lived North Uganda and were fortunate enough to win a regional competition in order to compete at the nationals, this was something that was unheard of. In the documentary it shows rebels and how it was dangerous to travel or go any where that was not protected. This some what relates to Blood Diamond. Young boys where taken away from their home to become soldiers. In the movie Solomon's son was taken away, Solomon was on the quest to find him. We talked about how soldiers were ruthless when attacking others, in fear for their lives. In class, we also talked about how America buyers where some what supplying the war blindly. I mean diamond jewelers would buy the diamonds and sell them on the market. This help fund the rebel groups continue to do what they did. We talked about the disfiguring soldiers did to innocent people just because they where there.
I recently watch the documentary over Blood Diamonds by the History Channel. Both Blood Diamond and the History Channel documentary changed my view on the ongoing wars . It opened up the door to the two different worlds idea. One world of prosperity of and a world of poverty. Not until in the recent years, I've notice the growing problem in Africa. Im well aware now that the wars have been going on for a long time. I never did understand the broad prospect of it. It really hurts how right now im siting in a comfortable bed typing this on my laptop, knowing that a child in Africa is fearing for their lives. It makes me ask myself what can i do to help. This movie defiantly reinforced knowledge that i wanted to bury because it was so difficult yo believe was true. What was learned in class did open up my eyes to the pain and suffering people of our world have to go through.
I liked the film it was very entertaining. i know it wasn't 100% accurate but still entertaining. It showed the blood diamond problem in a new prospect. It showed the lengths of greed people go through to get money. It showed the amount of love a man goes through to reunite his family. All together it was a good movie. Im just kinda sad that Leonardo DiCaprio dies in ever movie... Titanic, Inception, and Blood Diamond. haha. It was enjoyable to watch and i will probably watch it again one day. Flyboys
1. I chose to watch Flyboys. Flyboys is about WWI before America became involved. The young American men who disagreed with America not getting involved in the war decided to volunteer to fight alongside the French. Some men decided that they wanted to learn how to fly. The first of them, known as the Lafayette Escadrille, was a small squadron of only 38 men. It wasn't long after their efforts that America joined their cause.

Blood Diamond 5th Period
The movie I watched was “Blood Diamond”. The movie takes place in the African country of Sierra Leone; and has two main characters, one being Solomon, a fisherman, and the other Danny Archer, a diamond smuggler and also an ex-mercenary. Solomon’s village is invaded by the RUF, causing him to be separated from his family, and they also kidnap his son, Dia and turn him into a child soldier. Solomon is enslaved into a diamond field (the RUF use the diamonds to fund the war). While working at the fields, Solomon finds a large diamond of pink coloring, a captain sees him hide it and almost kills him, but the field is raided by government forces, and they are both taken to a prison in Freetown. Danny is caught smuggling diamonds into Liberia, and he is sent to the prison in Freetown also.
While in prison, Danny hears the captain and Solomon talking about the large diamond, it intrigues Danny so he decides to hunt it. Danny is released and later arranges for Solomon to be released from prison. He strikes a deal with Solomon: help him find the diamond, and he will help find his family. In the end, Solomon saves Dia, but Danny dies. Solomon sells the diamond to Danny’s ex-employers for a large amount of money, and they also give him his family back.
The movie touches on several elements of World History that we have learned in class. The elements include African rebels, child soldiers, and blood diamonds. The film takes place during the last year of the Sierra Leone Civil War in 1999. The movie helped me understand how bad African countries can be torn apart during a Civil war and also showed me the horrors of war. The movie also gave me more knowledge about blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in war zones to fund rebels. The fact that African rebels and diamond companies across the world profit off of these diamonds anger me. After anyone with any morals watches the film, they would think twice before purchasing diamond jewelry.
I enjoyed watching this movie. The movie helped me appreciate my safe life in America. The makers of the movie did a great job in showing how corrupt diamond companies are and in showing the horrors of African civil wars. The movie is very educational to anyone who is willing to watch it. I actually thought it was a good movie too, and I would recommend it to anyone willing to learn more about African civil wars and blood diamonds.
Black Robe
The film that I watched was the Black Robe. This movie was about a Jesuit priest who goes on a mission to convert the Algonquin and Huron Indians to Christianity. On his journey, his faith is tested from many troublesome events. The Algonquin Indians do not respect his religion. Because the priest prays and baptizes people, they also call him a demon throughout the entire movie. While on their tough journey, the Algonquin Indians decide to leave Laforgue behind. While hiding, the Iroquois Indians, a tribe that wants to solve all problems with violence, raided his possessions. The Algonquin tribe came back and got into a bloody fight leaving them with only 5 members left. The Iroquois take them back to their village and torture them severally, leaving Laforgue with only 4 fingers on his right hand. Annuka, the only Algonquin girl remaining, seduces the Iroquois guard and escapes herself and her friends. At this moment, there are only 4 remaining members on the mission, Laforgue, Annuka, Chomina, and Daniel. Soon after their escape, Chomina dies from an arrowhead being logged in his back from the Iroquois attack. Annuka, Daniel, and Laforgue journeyed on. When arriving at the Huron village, Annuka and Daniel left Laforgue to go on to safety. The Huron people asked Laforgue to baptize and convert them to Christianity. Fifteen years after their baptizing, they were murdered by the Iroquois tribe.

But through this fight, the priest accomplished what he came to accomplish.
This film reinforced my understanding of embracing your faith. It shows that with strong will and courage you can conquer your goals to help others in need, as Laforgue did. It also reinforced my knowledge of the cruelty that the Indians used in dealing with their enemies. An example of this from the movie is when meeting the Iroquois leader, one must go through a tunnel of Iroquois members armed with clubs to beat them. Later, the leader cut off Laforgue’s finger. Also, they slit the young child’s throat without having any remorse. The Iroquois leader expressed many horrible statics they were going to use to kill the 4 remaining travelers including burning them alive on a stake and to peel every single piece of skin off their bodies but to be sure they were alive to feel every moment of it.
In my opinion, I thought the film was very graphic but real. It was full of violence and inappropriate behavior that I was not expecting but, I do understand that that is what those people went through back in the harsh times of 1634. I was not imagining that much brutality and gruesomeness to be in the film. I thought the parts were played particularly well. With the suspense and connection I developed to the characters, the film kept me attentive and interested. All in all, I liked this film.

It was about newly elected South African president Nelson Mandela trying to reunite the country of South Africa through a rugby team. He was in prison for twenty seven years for a fight against apartheid. When he was elected, he did not want revenge, instead, he was forgiving. Nelson Mandela just wanted his counrty to be united as one.
The elements of "World History" that was touched on by this film is the unity of South Africa. Nelson Mandela is a very peaceful and loving man and just wanted his country to support one another no matter what race. The rugby team helped out with that because the movie has a picture at the very end of the movie of a white hand and black hand on a trophy. It symbolizes that Nelson Mandela brought the races together to work as one.
The film changed my idea of this historical event because I did not know that one man did all of that for the counrty of South Africa. Also I did not know how peaceful and forgiving Nelson Mandela is to the people that locked him away. Throughout the film, there are clips of poor neighborhoods and middle to higher class neighborhoods in South Africa. Flyboys
1. I chose to watch Flyboys, a film made in 2006. This movie tells the struggles a group of American men endured during World War I. The men volunteered to serve the French military prior to America's entrance in the war. They ventured on to become members of the French fighter pilots, and take down many German planes. The movie is based on a true story, and reveals what happened to each of the American men at the end.
2. Flyboys concentrated on the middle years of World War I, before American entry. It showed the relationship between the allied countries and how their teamwork helped them throughout the war. The movie also demonstrated the brutality of war, despite the common illusion of only glory coming from war. The American men form friendships during their training and learn that every person there has a purpose in the war. This movie shows the inner battle the soldiers face, having to deal with such loss.
3. The movie helped me realize that not only are the soldiers fighting against other men, but they are fighting for much more. The men struggled with loyalty, expectations from their family, love, loss, and the reality of war. The first time the group of men flew, one threw up as soon as he touched the ground. They each had to meet high expectations, backed up by only a little training. The history and feelings that were felt in that time became a reality within this film.
4. I thought that this film would be like a traditional action movie, and not impact me too much. However, as I continued to watch it, I found myself surprised how much I could relate to the soldiers. My dad was in the air force, and I asked him if he knew people who flew fighter planes like the ones in the movie. I was surprised to find that my grandpa flew ones just like it, and shot down planes much like the actors in the film did. I really liked this movie and I am glad that I understand the reality of the soldiers' situation a little bit more now.
Mr. McDonald's World History: 4th Honors
The movie I chose to watch was Out of Africa, starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. The movie is about a woman, Karen Blixen, who has a farm in Africa and everything that happens in her life while she has her farm in Africa. In the beginning of the movie she decides to marry one of her friends so she can hold more power in the world because she could not because she is female and living in the early nineteen hundreds. As the movie progresses, elements of World War I are depicted. The farm she has is a coffee farm which proves to give her many obstacles to overcome. She ends up having to move away from Africa, divorcing her husband, and her lover dies.
From the beginning of the movie, elements of World History are shown. The main character is a Barroness from Denmark, and one of the high class people she is often associated with asks her what side she thinks Denmark will be on if a war is to break out. She answers, "on it's own I hope". Eventually, the war does break out and her husband goes to fight, even though she does not want him to. Another historical element is the white European men essentially taking over African colonies. Geography is also an important element of the movie, because the movie takes place in parts of Africa, and parts of Europe. Overall, the story would not have been able to occur if World War One had not happened because many of the plot lines of the movie were because of the war.

Before the movie I thought that when Europeans would go to Africa they would be treated horrible and everyone hated Europeans, when that was not always the case. She doctors a sick child, takes into conssideration the feelings of their chief, and builds a school for the children of the village. The people who live in the area ador her and whenever she leaves them they always anticipate her arrival, especially one of the men who work ariund her house that she grew very close to.

"Invitcus" Is about Nelson Mandela being released after 27 years and workd to bring abot the end of the racism nad the initiation of full democratic elections; Madeline wins the race for president of south africa His first challenge is "balancing blakc aspirations with white fears". There is alot of racial issues in south africa going on during this time. He hires a security team of both black and white officials causing tention at first, but then using the sport to bring them together. He wants the rugby team to win the world cup this year. He turns to the captain of the springboks rugby team pienaar. The team trains, but the players voice is poor to th public because of their record. By the end the team wins their final match and the racial tention is broke. This ties into our conversation in class about racism. What tools we can use to break it and how it was done.

1. The movie I chose for this assignment was Out of Africa (1985), starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. It won 7 Oscars; Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Music-Original Score, Best Picture, Best Sound, and Best Writing-Screenplay based on material from another medium. Out of Africa also won 3 Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, and Best Original Score-Motion Picture. It was also nominated for 4 other Oscars, 3 Golden globes, an Eddie, an Award of the Japanese Academy, and 4 BAFTA film awards among many more.
2. An element of World History that this film focused on was the colonization of Africa by the Europeans. The movie focuses on Danish Baroness Karen von Blixen-Finecke's (Meryl Streep) experiences in Africa from 1914 until her return to Denmark in 1931. In one scene the European men in Africa are discussing the upcoming war and how they will respond. World War I is not the main focus of the movie, but it is again referenced during a celebration in the streets of the city in 1918 after the Treaty of Versailles has been signed.

Out of Africa
The film I chose to watch was " Out of Africa". Which is about a woman who moves to africa with her husband to start a dariy. Once she arrives her husband infroms her that he would rather plant coffee. So they plant coffee to start their lively hood in africa. They purchase 1000 acres on an English colony.

The Last King of Scottland
The movie I watched was The Last king of Scottland. This movie shows the interactions between the President of Uganda and a Scottish phisician in the 1970's, The two came in contact with one another in a way that might be described as fait. The movie begins with Nicholas Garrigan fresh out of medical school, and from what I can tell trapped in his own life. Nicholas spins a globe and puts his finger out in search of his future and it so happens to land on Uganda. He travels to Uganda and begins helping a few other doctors in a small village. While there he was called to help the Ugandan president who was injured in a car accident. When Nicholas arrived at the scene he aided the President with his injury, which proved to be minor, and left an impression that almost cost him his life. After meeting with Nicholas, President Amin became attached in a way that trulely showed his mental instability. Nicholas became involved with matters far beyond his feild of work, matters concerning the state. Nicholas aslo became involved with President Amin's personal life along with that he had a affair with Amin's third and most recent wife Kay. Kay becomes pregnant with Nicholas's child and goes to him in search of someway to get an abortion, The decison is made that Nicholas will preform the surgery. On his way to Kay with the equitment to do the procedure he is interupted and is delayed in getting to Kay this ultimatly leads to Kay's death. Nicholas tries to take revenge against Amin by ways of his profession. His plan his stopped in its tracks, and he escaped only because another doctor in the local hospital the both worked at died saving him. This Doctor, Dr. Junju, only did this because he belived that the world would listen to Nicholas and he could ultimatly save Uganda from this oppresive force.

Michael Collins
(1) The movie I watched was 'Michael Collins.' This film focused on the portrayal of how life-threatening and violent life was for the Irish back in the early 1920's during their fight for independence from Great Britain. The Irish people were against imperialism and for liberty. The old adage, 'Give me liberty, or give me death' can sum up how the Irish felt during this time. With excellent actors playing tough roles, 'Michael Collins' is a success, and I would recommend it.
(2) Dying at the early age of 31, Michael Collins fought the British Empire to a standstill, negotiated Ireland’s first Treaty of Independence, and oversaw that treaty shift to democracy. Michael Collins, a captivating and persuasive man, is considered to be one of the most scandalous and tragic figures in Irish history. A crucial part of the movie is devoted to the companionship between Michael Collins and best friend Harry Boland. For four years, they are caught up in a love triangle with Kitty Kiernan until she acknowledges her feelings for Collins. In addition to her confession, both men are politically not on the same page anymore. They grow apart and eventually become enemies.
(3) Michael Collins was a leading light and a skillful fighter to the Irish people. His rebellious tactics seem to have inspired the Irish at that time. Though continuously endangered and tracked by the British, Collins' people never lost faith in him. Michael Collins’ tactic was to know more about the British than they knew about Irish, and use whatever they could as an advantage to hunt them down. For example, in the movie, Collins frequently asks people 'What did they eat for breakfast?' There are a lot of executions, suffering, and resistance in this movie. This shows the extreme nationalistic ideals the Irish had. Therefore, they sought after freedom, and would die for their country to achieve it.
(4) The movie starts with the Easter Rising in 1916. However, it would take an additional three years until the Irish war of Independence, a fierce and bloody war, followed. The war ended with a treaty, something unthinkable for Ireland for 700 years. The British allowed the Irish Free State but wanted it to swear allegiance to their flag. Michael Collins, although not a fan of Britain’s ultimatum, is determined that this is the best he could do for now. However, the men around future president, de Valera, wanted Ireland to be totally free of British control. This is where the movement for Independence split the country in two; each would fight the other fiercely. Michael Collins is tired of the constant fighting and bloodshed, and is desperate for peace. Collins is determined that if the treaty is not signed, worse things will happen to Ireland.
(5) I never really knew anything about Ireland's fight for independence until I watched 'Michael Collins.' British rule was extremely cruel and the Irish people were in a state of unrest and great turmoil. Michael Collins longed for peace, and he wanted Ireland to be free. He was willing to settle for this treaty in hopes that Ireland would create a government in favor for independence, and that's how Ireland would achieve their goal. He knew it would be a long process, but he wished for more support from the Irish. I thought this movie was a bit difficult to understand, but it would probably make more sense after watching it a few times. I thought this film really portrayed the difficulties the Irish felt during this time, and the violence that occurred. I would recommend this movie, but I caution the language and brutal violence.
The Last King Of Scotland
The movie I watched was The Last King of Scotland. This movie is about a man named Garrigan from Scotland who graduated from medical school in Scotland, so he planned to make a trip out of the country to get away and try to do something useful wherever he could go. His choice of the country was by a spin of the globe and the spot his finger landed. The first spin was Canada, but for a reason I do not know he didn't like that choice, so he spun again and landed on Uganda. Because he had just graduated medical school he arranged to stay with some local doctors and help with the medical problems in a small tribe. He had been working for a few days when he got a call about a problem with the newly elected king Idi Amin. He had hurt his hand in a car accident and he wrapped it and spoke with the king while he helped him. He is selected to become his personal physician. Amin builds trust for him and relies on more than medical matters, such as matters of state. He becomes engulfed in his lifestyle and eventually becomes lovers with the king's wife Kay. Amin begins to lose faith in Garrigan and he learns of the president's mental stability issues. Garrigan gets Kay pregnant and tries to seek and abortion. He decides to do the operation himself, but when they do not meet on time she seeks a local abortion in a nearby village. When he finds her, he sees her mutilated corspe and breaks down. Then Garrigan palns to kill Amin through his positon as a personal physician. Amin hears of a highjacked plan that has been brought down and he goes to the scene with Garriggan. There the guards learn of his paln to kill Amin and take him into the back room where Amin orders him to be hung by the skin. After he is left there to die by the guards, his colleauge saves him, cleans him up, and tries to gt him on the flight out with the people from the highjacked plane. He escapes and te end shows the real president and the fact that over 300,000 citizens were killed under his rule.

The movie that i watched was Black Robe. During this journey many different events that made him question his faith. One thing was that the Algonquins thought he was a demon and they didn't trust him at all. Then soon later they ran into the Iroquois Tribe. This was a fierce tribe that acted like animals instead of men. They keep the priest, his friend, the Algonquin leader and his daughter captive. They tortured and eliminated them and kept them over night. They escaped that night with the help of the daughter. Soon after they had escaped the Algonquin leader died because the arrowhead in his stomach from when they were fighting with the Iroquois. So it was only three of them left heading to the Huron village. The priest went alone to the Huron village and the priests friend and the daughter of the Algonquin leader went for safety. Once the priest made it to the village, he baptized the villagers and they were converted to Catholicism. Then fifteen years later, the Iroquois attacked and killed the Huron village and the priest.
There were a couple things that were touched of World History in this movie. One was how the Indians acted and how they treated everyone else. For example the Iroquois tribe was very brutal and harsh on their prisoners. They were a more powerful tribe and the other two, the Huron and Algonquin were weaker. Also how people tried spreading Catholicism to people. It was like how people get martyred today. The priest went through all that trouble to get through one tribe, he truly made a difference in a tribe.
The one thing that really reinforced my thought was how the Iroquois acted. They were so brutal to whoever came to their village. From going through a beating path to the leader to getting your finger cut off, they truly acted like animals. Also what they said what they were going to do if they didn't escaped was going to be painful. The leader said that they would die a slow death and that they were going to peel each layer of skin off when they are still alive. That to me is just sick and wrong.
I thought the movie was going to be boring for two reasons. One was that i thought it wont be good because its from the 90s. Also it just looked boring to me. It was actually a pretty good movie. I didn't really want to look away because i thought i would miss something good. It had a bit of romance and suspense. I like the movie.
Flyboys
1. The movie I watched was Flyboys. It was about a group of Amercians that went to France to fight in World War 1. They were trained to fight as fighter pilots and to take down the German planes. The focused on lives of the men that were fighting, and their beliefs and struggles. In the beginning, there were several men that came out but there were only four the survived.
2. This movie focused on World War 1, which we are talking about in class right now. It was about the ideals and the morals of World War 1, and it was about the men that fought. The movie showed what World War 1 was really about and the real life situations. In some cases, it showed the ruthlessness of the Germans. In one scene, it showed "no man's land" and the constant battle that took place. The movies also showed the advancing of the Germans and the effects of innocent citizens.
3. The film reinforced the way that I feel about wars and the soldiers that fight in them. It takes an extreme amount of bravery to fight in these wars. This movie shows that war is much more than what we think it is. It also shows that World War 1 is one of the worst wars that was ever fought. It's difficult to fight in any war, much less a war of this brutality. This movie showed me that it was not only the Allies that lost men, but also the Germans.

Blood Diamond
The movie I watched for my extra credit assignment was Blood Diamond. This movie is about a man named Solomon who was a fisherman who lived in Sierra Leone. Solomon was captured by the RUF(Revolutionary United Front) Rebels. Solomons is then forced to work in a diamond field. during the invasion of Solomon's village his son, Dia, was taken by the rebels and was completely brain washed and turned into a violent killer. On day as Solomon was working he came across and enormous pink diamond. Solomon had stolen the diamond and ran away when the government soldiers were attacking the mine. Solomon came across a man named Danny Archer, who is a mercenary. Solomon and him made a deal the i Danny would help Solomon get his family back Solomon would give Danny the diamond. In the end Solomon got his family back safely. sadly Danny Archer died. Solomon is reunited with his family and his son Dia was brought back to a normal state of being.
In this movie they talked about a lot of subjects we have been talking about in class such as rebels and children being taken from their families and turned into violent children soldiers by the rebels. People in places like Sierra Leone still have these situations accuring. It is very upsetting to know that as we sleep soundly in our nice homes families are being torn apart, children are being drugged up and told to kill anyone in their path. Very few families reunite with each other. In America we don't have to worry about things like this happening. I and no one I know cant even imagine being torn apart from their families like the people in this movie. It is very sad that Third World Nations have to live this way.

Black Robe
The movie I watched was Black Robe. This movie is about a Jesuit priest who goes on a mission to convert the Algonquin and Huron Indians to Catholicism. On his journey, he runs into a series of unfortunate events that make him question his beliefs about God. First of all, the Algonquin Indians do not respect him and his religion, Catholicism. They think he is a demon because when he prays, they think he is casting a spell on someone or something. To add on to that, the Algonquin Indians and him run into the Iroquois Indians, a fierce tribe who is all about beating their enemy to a pulp. They get captured as prisoners and are taken back to the Iroquois village. There, the Iroquois torture them a little bit, but let them stay alive for the night to think about what is going to happen to them. That night they escaped because the only female left seduced a member of the Iroquois. At that time, there was only four people left, the priest and his friend and the leader of the Algonquin and his daughter. A little bit after their escape, the Algonquin leader died because of an arrowhead that was lodged in his stomach from the Iroquois attack. Then, the priest headed toward the Huron village and the priest's friend and the daughter of the Algonquin leader went to safety. When the priest arrived at the Huron village, they asked him to baptize them, and he did. They were converted to Catholicism. Fifteen years later, they were all killed by the Iroquois Indians.

Flyboys
The movie I chose to watch for the extra credit assignment was Flyboys (2006). This movie is about a group of young men enlisting in World War 1 to fly for the French. Throughout this movie they show how life would be for a man flying and how hard it was and all the difficulties. In Flyboys they really tried showing a lot of the history that actually happened. Being based in World War I, they had the actual planes they flew, uniforms, and how the men actually lived if they were flyers. They did not really show the other countries and how they dealt with the war and the people on the ground. The film only showed one part of the war and that was with the flying.
The film changed my understanding of this history because it showed how hard it was to lose a friend and how hard it was to go up in the air and shoot somebody and get shot at. I did not realize it was so hard for everyone there to do that. When i finished the film my first thought was like "no it can't end there, there has to be more." It was a really good movie and I thought they did an excellent job in using authenticity like the planes, including the Red Barons and the Black Falcon. They also did a very good job in showing how the actual fighting happened in the air instead of them just having fun. This movie will definitely be able to show me now how World War I really was now and hopefully others will see that to.

It was a really good movie and I thought they did an excellent job in using authenticity like the planes, including the Red Barons and the Black Falcon. They also did a very good job in showing how the actual fighting happened in the air instead of them just having fun. This movie will definitely be able to show me now how World War I really was now and hopefully others will see that to.
Out Of Africa
I watched Out of Africa (1985) featuring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. This movie is based on the memoir written by Baroness Karen von Bilxon-Finecke under the pen name Isak Dinesen. It won 7 Oscars for Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Music (Original Score), Best Picture, Best Sound, and Best Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Costume Design, and Best Film Editing. The movie tells the story of Karen Blixon who traveled to Africa in 1913 to run a successful ranch. Many good things happened to her including meeting the love of her life, falling in love with a country on the other side of the world, but there were also bad things such as eventually losing her farm and contracting syphilis. In the end she must move back to Denmark with longing for her lost love and the land she fell in love with.
The element of "World History" touched in this movie was European colonization in Africa. Originally I thought that the Europeans in Africa were awful to Africans and treated them all as slaves. In this movie, however, Karen Blixon does not think that way. She wants to help them as much as she can. She helps them in various ways including pushing one young man to visit the doctor for his horribly infected ankle. Throughout the movie she becomes more acquainted with the culture and people of Africa. Although she is nice to them, there are also the stereotypical white men who think they are above the "savages".
I thought originally that the Europeans were vicious, cruel creatures to the Africans. Not helping them only hurting them, and not caring about what happened to them as long as Europeans got what they wanted. In this film though Karen is nice to the Africans and finds many ways to help them. She even gets a kid to go to the doctor for his infected leg. This movie conveys that not all Europeans were evil to Africans. There are those people who are cruel, but it shows some of the people were nice to the "savages".
I loved this amazingly crafted movie. The romance had to be my favorite part though. Karen was faced with many emotional conflicts. First she makes a deal with a friend to marry a man she was friends with, but didn't love. Since they weren't in love he cheated on her eventually giving her syphilis. When she returns to Africa she falls in love with Denys Finch Hatton. They explore Africa together and she falls in love with the land. Although when they get back he is unable to fill her need for worth because he did not believe in marriage. In the end of the movie you start to assume he is changing his views on long term relationships and could potentially end up marrying Karen. Unfortunately he dies in a plane crash before your assumptions are confirmed.

flyboys
The movie I watched was called Flyboys.
The movie is set during World War I before the United States had entered the war. During this time young Americans went to France to be fighter pilots. The movie shows what is was like to be an American fighter pilot during World War I. Flyboys showed me how brave the men were to put thereselves in those dangerous positions. It showed the tremendous loss of life that came with World War I. Towards the end of the movie the United States joins the war.
The movie put in perspective how dangerous it was to be a fighter pilot during this time. It shows how violent the war was. The movie also informed me that the Germans had more advanced planes and machine guns than the Americans did. It showed how much the pilots cared for one another. They risked there life to save each other and didnt leave one behind.
I thought Flyboys was a great movie. Until I saw this movie I was not aware that Americans fought in WWI before the United States actually entered the war. I give all the Americans lots of credit for doing something so dangerous and with a life excpectancy of only 3 to 6 weeks.
